Mama's Cheese Grits Recipe

You're gonna love this creamy southern favorite. Mama's cheese grits recipe is great for breakfast or even a midnight snack!

If you have any leftover cheese grits, pour them into a shallow pan, cover and put them in the refrigerator. The next day, you can cut them into squares and fry them up in a little butter.

cheese grits

Here's what you'll need:

2 cups of water
2 cups of whole milk
1 1/2 teaspoons of kosher salt
1 cup of quick cooking grits
1/2 teaspoon pepper
4 tablespoons of butter
4 ounces mild cheddar cheese, shredded

Here's what you'll need to do:

Bring water, milk and salt to a boil in a large heavy bottom pot over medium-high heat.

Slowly add grits while stirring to keep them from clumping. Cover and reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 to 7 minutes.

Remove from heat, stir in pepper, butter and shredded cheese. Serve warm.
