Hushpuppies Recipe

Mama's hushpuppies recipe is a southern favorite!

What seafood meal would be complete without hushpuppies? Once you've tried this recipe, I'm sure you'll never want to have seafood again with hushpuppies...shoot...they're so good, you may even want to have the hushpuppies without seafood!

hushpuppies

Here's what you'll need:

1 1/2 cups self-rising cornmeal mix
1/2 cup of self-rising flour
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon of Lawry's Seasoning Salt
1 teaspoon of Old Bay Seasoning
1/2 teaspoon pepper
Oil for deep frying
1/8 cup of bacon grease (you can use vegetable oil here but the bacon grease gives it such a wonderful flavor)
1/2 cup onion, finely chopped

Here's what you need to do:

Heat your cooking oil to 350 degrees F.

Mix together all of the dry ingredients. Add the rest of the ingredients and stir until well blended.

When the oil is ready, drop your hush puppies in using atablespoon. Flip them over after they begin to brown on the first side. Allow them to brown on all sides flipping several times. Be careful not to overcook them.

**Note: Add 2 tablespoons of sugar to this recipe for hush puppies if you like your hush puppies a little sweet.
