Cooking Meat in a Crock Pot

How many hours can I leave meat cooking on low in a crock pot? I started a fresh ham 4 hours ago. It is still not done and time for us to go to bed. Should I turn it on high and give it another hour or can I leave it on low, go to bed, and get up in 2 or 3 hours to check it?

Hey There!

I hope I'm not too late to answer your question. If you cooked the ham on low for 4 hours, it should be fine for at least another 4 to 6 hours depending upon the size of your ham, it may take even longer. Meat cooked on the low setting of a crock pot normally takes 8 to 10 hours to cook. High settings usually take about 4 to 6 hours. These are just general cooking times so you will need to use a meat thermometer to make sure the meat reaches the proper temperature. I hope this has helped.
