Stewed Okra And Tomatoes

A delicious southern classic, stewed okra and tomatoes is oh sooo good.

Whether you serve this great side dish poured over some white rice or you just eat it as a side dish...you're gonna love it!

stewed okra and tomatoes

Here's what you are going to need:

4 slices of bacon, cut into small pieces
1/2 cup onion
1/2 cup green bell pepper
2 cloves of garlic
1 stalk of celery, sliced fairly thin
1 (29 ounce) can of whole tomatoes
1 tablespoon of chicken base
1 tablespoon sugar
2 cups of fresh okra (if you don't have fresh, frozen will work just fine)
pepper to taste

Here's what you need to do:

In a large pan, cook bacon pieces until crisp. Add the onion, green bell pepper, celery and garlic. Saute until onions become translucent (about 5 minutes). Add tomatoes, chicken base, sugar and okra. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer for 20 to 30 minutes until okra is tender. Add pepper to taste.

You'll find that this okra with tomatoes recipe is great poured over some white rice.

I hope you enjoy it!
